Golf competes in TAPPS District Tournament, boys' lacrosse celebrates their senior night with a win, girls' lacrosse posts a big district win, softball racks up hits and runs, and tennis plays tune up matches before the State Championship. Check out these sports highlights!

Golf
On April 1, Parish Varsity Golf competed in TAPPS District Golf Tournament at Watters Creek Golf Course. Blake Eisenberg ’19, Cole Barclay ’22, Keller Welton ‘20, Mason Wilderom ‘20 and Alex Kidd ’21 represented the boys’ team. On the girls’ side, Ashley Siddons ‘19, Koko Olson ‘20, Elizabeth Walsh ‘20 and Michelle Mijares ’22 represented Panthers. It was a chilly day on the links. Eisenberg finished in eleventh place with an 87, and Cole Barclay shot a 93.

Lacrosse Boys
Parish Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse held a senior night ceremony at the home game on April 4, against divisional opponent Prestonwood Christian Academy. Panthers led in the first quarter, working hard at defense and limiting the opportunities for Lions. Andrew Kaleigh ’20 led the team defensively with nine saves on 13 shots. To make the senior night sweeter, Parish finished the game winning 11-4. Leading the way offensively for the Panthers was Daniel Steckler ’19 with an amazing six goal game. Henry Kull ‘20 recorded his second straight hat trick of the season. Helping facilitate many of the goals was Cale Watkins ‘19 with four assists and one goal, and Reid Boisture ‘20 with two assists and one goal. The Panthers are now 3-1 on their divisional season.

On April 6, Parish Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse played again at home against divisional opponent Cumberland Academy. The game was tight throughout each quarter, but with continued offensive pressure and the improved defense, Parish finished the game winning 10-7. Cumberland was 6-2 coming into the contest. Leading the way offensively for the Panthers was a group of seniors that included Watkins with a season team high seven goal game, Savoy Curd with two goals, and Steckler with one. The Panthers are now 4-1 on their divisional season.

Lacrosse Girls
After falling to Bishop Lynch earlier this season, Varsity Girls’ Lacrosse fought hard for a win over the Friars on April 4. Parish won 7-5, with five different players scoring. Morgan Day ‘21, Marley Evans ’19 and Kate Kelley ’19 each had one goal and Georgia Lewis ‘21 and Julia Wilfong ’21 scored two each. Many players had standout games including Katie Palmer ’21 with eight ground balls, three draw controls, and one caused turnover; Ryan Daniel ’21 with five ground balls, one caused turnovers, and one interception; and Keirra Vinson ’19 with an incredible 16 saves in goal.

On April 7, Varsity Girls’ Lacrosse traveled to Keller and lost 19-7. Palmer, the leading scorer for the day, had four goals on seven shots. Evans added two goals and Wilfong had one goal. Defensively, Abby Jackson ’22 and Ellie Heald ’22 had great games, each tallying three ground balls. Vinson had another standout game making 13 saves.

Softball
Parish Varsity Softball hosted McKinney Christian on April 2. Despite the loss, Panthers did collect hits, runs and stolen bases during the game. Panthers scored two runs in the first inning and four runs in the fourth inning. Offense was led by Sarah Johnson ‘20, Natasha Silverlieb ‘21 and Alana Grissom ’20 all driving in runs in the game including a steal at home and score by Johnson. Jazelle Bartley ‘22, Emily Long ’21 and Brooke Shulman ’20 rounded out the offense each with base hits in the game.

On April 4, Panthers traveled to Dallas Christian Mesquite for a late evening game. Despite a strong offense and out-hitting Dallas Christian 14 to eight, it wasn’t enough to get the win. Bartley led things off in the circle for Panthers. Defensively, Johnson made the most plays with two. On offense, Panthers saw the ball well racking up 14 hits and 11 runs with four in the fourth inning. Grissom, Silverlieb and Hailey Baer ‘21 each drove in runs while Freedom Foster ‘21 had a four-bagger in the fifth inning. Mariana Aguilar ‘19, Johnson and Bartley all had multiple hits – Aguilar leading the offense with three hits total.

Tennis
Varsity Boys’ and Girls’ Tennis finished their regular season with two matches against Greenhill (girls) on April 2, and ESD (boys) on April 4 at their respective opponents’ schools. The teams played abbreviated matches of pro sets and both matches were competitive. Leading the Panther girls in singles were Jordan McGonnell ‘22, Blaire Wartell ‘20, Dalia Charif ‘20 and Nicole Moon ‘22. Playing doubles for the team were Kate Musselman ‘19, Dani Perales ‘19, Anna Katharine Sullivan ‘20, Mehak Chhabra ‘19, Josephine Zucker ‘20, Vennela Vattikuti ‘21, and Maggie Bienko ‘20. The boys’ team was led by Chase Barclay ‘20, Grant Carrington ‘20 and Zayd Khatri ‘21 in singles. In doubles, Alexander Suster ‘21, Blake Elliott ‘20, Lawson Wallace ‘21, Winston Harrah ‘20, Lawrence Lim ‘20, and Brad Fetter ’20 paired up and gave it their all. Three players, Kate Musselman, Dani Perales, and Chase Barclay have advanced to the TAPPS State Tournament and will compete for the State Championship title in Waco, April 8-9.
