Students and adults teamed up at the inaugural Parish (Varsity & JV) Tennis Classic on Saturday, April 28 at UT-Dallas. The four hour event was a doubles round robin tournament hosted by Varsity and JV Tennis. The players paired up with their parents, friends, teachers, and coaches. Chris Bertha, Head of Upper School, also came out and gave it his best shot against his students! The Classic featured prizes, lunch and a Best Costume Award which was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wasserman for their baby blue and orange tuxedos. The doubles tournament included three draws this year. The three champion teams were Raunak Trivedi '18 and his partner, Matt Jones; Anna Katharine Sullivan '20 and her father, Edward Sullivan; and Alexander Suster '21, and his mother, Gloria Suster. The event was a smashing success and Parish's Tennis Program hopes to begin a yearly tradition of this tournament for many more years to come!
Parish Junior Varsity Baseball hosted Grapevine Faith Christian on April 23. The Panthers couldn't keep up with the Faith Christian's offense and lost 13-1. Carter Perry '21 was the starting pitcher and ended up taking the loss for Parish on the mound. He lasted three innings, allowing seven runs on six hits with one strikeout. Darries Boyd '20 and Preston Harless '18 each collected hits in the game to lead Parish offensively.
On April 24, Parish played host to district opponent, Trinity Christian Academy and lost 8-2. The Panthers struggled to contain the high powered offense of TCA. Tyler Hamilton '19 took the loss on the mound for Parish. He allowed five runs on seven hits over two innings and had two strikeouts. Will Velvin '18, Cole Tidmore '18, Aaron Tidmore '20 , Darries Boyd '20, and Robert Monaco '20 each collected base hits in the game. The Panthers were solid defensively and did not commit a single error.
Parish traveled to TCA for game two of the district series on April 27. Parish took an early 1-0 lead in the game but failed to produce more runs and lost 5-1. C. Tidmore pitched well but took the loss on the mound for Parish. He surrendered five runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out three. The Panthers totaled six hits in the game with C. Tidmore and Boyd each collecting multiple base hits.
Track and Field
On April 26, three Parish Track and Field student-athletes traveled to Lancaster to compete in TAPPS 6A Regional Meet.
Megan Fitzgerald '18 represented Parish in pole vault. Fitzgerald placed first overall in the North Region clearing 12-00.00 and is headed to Waco in search of her fourth State Championship in girl's pole vault.
Paige Jenkins '21 placed first overall in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.43 and will be making her first trip to Waco to compete in the State Championships. Jenkins also competed in the 300m hurdles placing eighth in the North Region with 56.91. These are impressive performances considering Jenkins is only a freshman.
Parish Varsity Girls Lacrosse played Greenhill, the 2018 Division II champions, and lost 16-3 on April 23. Marely Evans '19 scored two goals, and Katie Palmer '21 had one goal. Maggie Bossalini '18 had a great defensive game with four caused turnovers. Mia Shroyer '20 had five saves in goal.
On April 25, the JV Girls Lacrosse team played Prosper HS and won 10-3. Palmer scored four goals. Julia Wilfong '21 and Georgia Lewis '21 each scored two. Oliva Fair '21 and Julia Griffin '19 each added one. Shroyer had four saves in goal.
