Panther Sports Highlights - April 16-21

Tennis
Five Parish Varsity Tennis players - Chase Barclay '20, Jad Charif '18, Kate Musselman '19, Alex Olmedo '18 and Dani Perales '19 - traveled to Waco to compete in TAPPS 6A Tennis State Championships, which were held April 16-17. Parish Tennis had an exciting two days of tennis at State with Musselman and Perales topping it off by capturing the Girls' Doubles State Title! Congratulations to them for winning the championship as well as putting Parish Girls' Tennis in third place at State. Musselman and Perales fought hard and overcame a grueling, semifinal match that lasted three and half hours against Ursuline! They sealed the win in a third set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(5). Musselman and Perales then faced TCA in the finals and won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.
In boys' singles, Barclay played the first seed from Houston Awty International School in the first round and gave it his best. He came up short, 6-0, 6-3. In boys' doubles, J. Charif and Olmedo were pumped up for their State debut and played hard in their first round. They lost to Beaumont Monsignor Kelly Catholic HS. Congratulations to the boys for playing well and representing Parish at State! Well done, Panthers!

Baseball
Parish Junior Varsity Baseball took on Newman Academy out of Cedar Hill on April 16. The Panthers pulled away with an 18-2 victory. Jackson Harris '20, Darries Boyd '20 and Richmond Binkley '21 each collected multiple hits in the high scoring game. The Panthers played great defense and did not commit a single error.

On April 17, Varsity Baseball hosted Liberty Christian. Parish played hard and battled but ended up losing 17-7. Despite the loss, Parish collected six hits in the game. Tyler Hamilton '19, Cole Tidmore '18 and Sam Bradford '19 each drove in runs in the fourth inning. Hamilton led the team offensively going 2-3 at the plate.

Parish traveled to TCU in Fort Worth on April 20, to take on Liberty Christian in game two of the District series. The Panthers ended up losing 1-0 in a hard fought, pitching duel. C. Tidmore was brilliant on the mound. He allowed only one run on one hit and had six strikeouts. Hamilton, C. Tidmore, Aaron Tidmore 20, and Will Velvin '18 each collected base hits to lead the team offensively.

Softball
Parish Varsity Softball team traveled to Trinity Christian Academy on April 16.  The Panthers showed their skills at bat, specifically Keirra Vinson '19 who doubled on a line drive to center field bringing in Sarah Johnson '20 for the scoring run. The Panthers had trouble keeping up with the Trojans and, unfortunately, were handed a loss.

On April 18, the varsity softball team traveled to Prestonwood Christian Academy. Despite the loss, Panthers collected 16 hits in the high-scoring affair. Vinson got the start for the Panthers on the rubber with Claire Burkett '19 finishing the game out of the bullpen. The Panthers tallied eight runs in the first four innings. The girls were sure-handed and did not commit a single error. Big bats were led by Johnson, Ashley Awad '20, Rebecca Dorward '19, Alana Grissom '20, Natasha Silverlieb '21, Kavita Sharma '21, Brooke Shulman '20 and Vinson. The batters drove-in runs in the game. Dorward, Vinson, Burkett, Sharma, Grissom and Johnson each had multiple hits for the Panthers. Vinson and Dorward each collected three hits to lead the Panthers.

Lacrosse Boys
On Tuesday, April 17, Varsity Boys Lacrosse played a home game against Plano East. Parish posted a confident win 15-11. Daniel Steckler '19 led the scorers posting five goals, followed by Gordie Geymuller '19 , Noah Love '20 and Reid Boisture '20 with three points each. Jonathan Denheyer '18 added one goal. Dustin Henderson '20 won 12 face-offs and Malcolm Downie '21 won two. Goalie Wesley Dodson '18 played 10 saves. It was a great night for the Panthers!

The team played their last home game of the regular season against Plano HS on April 19. Before the game, five Panther senior players were honored in the Senior Night Ceremony. Parish won 10-9 in close game that went into double overtime with a final goal from Boisture that sealed the win for the Panthers. Steckler led the scorers with four goals, followed by N. Love with three, Boisture with two, and Geymuller with one goal. Henderson won nine face-offs and Downie won two. Dodson '18 played 10 saves in the goal. Congratulations, Panthers! We look forward to cheering you on in the playoffs!

Lacrosse Girls
Varsity Girls Lacrosse played Division I Flower Mound and lost 13-4 on April 16. Katie Palmer '21 had a standout game with three groundballs, three draw controls, two caused turnover and a goal. Kacey Cohen '19 had two goals on two shots and Sophie Kate Guillory '20 scored once. Mia Shroyer '20 had six saves in goal. On April 18, varsity lost to Frisco Fury 13-3. Shroyer had an incredible game in goal, making 14 saves. Palmer, Guillory and Cohen each scored one for Parish.

 

Cheerleading
Parish Cheer held its annual team tryout clinics April 16-18 which culminated with the judged tryouts on April 19. It was a strong field of 27 contestants who competed for 14 spots on varsity and 13 spots on junior varsity cheer squads.  Captain material is due May 10 and captain tryouts will take place May 16-17. Teams will be announced soon after.  We are excited about the upcoming season!

Track & Field
On April 18, Parish Track and Field competed in TAPPS 6A District meet. The results from the meet include:

Junior Varsity
• Blaire Wartell '20 won the girls' 100m dash with a time of (14.27); she placed 3rd in the 200m with (30.45)
• Hunter Wartell '19 ran the 100m dash (12.51)
• Jack Jouette '21 ran 100m (12.91) and 200m (26.02)
• Evan Brown '21 ran 200m (27.03)

Varsity
• Paige Jenkins '21 won the 100m high hurdles with a time of (16.81); she placed 8th in the 300m hurdles with a 55.37. She will be moving on to Regionals in both of those events. Also she did the long jump, where her best was (13-4)
• Tkai Wade '20 placed 3rd in the 200m with a time of (22.52), and 4th in the 100m with a time of (11.09); he will move on to Regionals for both events.
• In the boys' 200m, Logan Rayburn '19 ran a (24.72) and H. Wartell ran a (25.76)
• In the boys' 400m, Jalen Tot '20 ran a (55.43), and Ben Flowers '19 ran a (56.24).
• In the boys' 1600m, John Buttles '20 ran a (5:50.64), Grant Phillips '20 ran a (5:51.65), and Jefferson Ratliff '21 ran a (6:04.38)
• In the boys' discus, Josue Munoz '20 threw (73-1) and Auhsten Serrano '19 (67- 4).
• In the boys' shot put, Serrano threw (37'6") and Munoz threw (33'2")
• In the boys' high jump, Jai Moore '21 jumped (5'4")
• In the boys' long jump, Jalen Tot jumped (16'11")
