On Tuesday, April 3, Parish Varsity Baseball traveled to Fort Worth to take on Nolan Catholic. Parish won the first game of the series 16-8. Sam Bradford '19 showed timely hitting by driving in five runs on the day; a double in the second inning and a grand slam in the sixth. Parish got things going in the second inning on the Bradford double and doubles by Robert Monaco '20 and Tyler Hamilton '19. Hamilton got the win for Parish on the mound. He threw four and 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Darries Boyd '20 and Calvin Williams '21 also toed the mound to help close things out for Parish. Bradford and Ben Soule '19 both hit the long ball and were a welcomed addition back to the team. It was Bradford's first game of the season coming off a torn ACL from back in early fall. Soule returned to the lineup following a shoulder injury in a pre-season tournament in February. Parish racked up 12 hits on the day with Bradford, Hamilton, Will Velvin '18, and Soule each collecting multiple hits. Hamilton was 3-5 at the plate to lead the Panthers in hits.
On Friday, April 6, Parish hosted Nolan Catholic for game two of the series. Nolan jumped out to an early lead and Parish was not able to catch up. The Panthers ended up losing 11-3 after a nearly two hour weather delay. Cole Tidmore '18 took the loss for Parish on the mound. He lasted two and 1/3 innings allowing five runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Soule led the Panthers offensively going 2-3 at the plate.
Parish Softball team hosted Bishop Dunne on April 5. The girls started out strong against the Lady Falcons with Keirra Vinson '19 on the rubber for the Panthers. Rebecca Dorward '19 and Ashley Awad '20 both had hits to lead our team with Awad getting 2 RBI's. While the girls hung in there, it proved to be a challenge to come back from behind. The Panthers were handed a 16-2 loss.
Girls' Varsity Golf played a match against Greenhill at Sherrill Park Golf Course on April 4. The ladies had a great match. Ashley Siddons '19 won her match one up. Elizabeth Walsh '20 lost her match by one down and Rebekah Coleman '18 lost her match. The girls played well, and enjoyed their afternoon.
Parish Girls' Lacrosse Varsity and Junior Varsity teams played Bishop Lynch at home and won both games on April 4. Varsity won 8-5, with Lizzie Kelley '21 scoring six goals and Maggie Bossalini '18 and Katie Palmer '21 each adding one goal. Goalie Mia Shroyer '20 had eight saves in goal. Junior Varsity team won 4-3. Julia Wilfong '21 had all four goals. Nicole McLendon '19 had four ground balls and an assist, while Shroyer had 13 saves in goal.
On April 4, the JV Tennis team traveled to Trinity Christian Academy and had many competitive matches. Boys' line one singles, Zayd Khatri '21, gave the Panthers the W and defeated his opponent 8-5. Davis Christon '19 and Ryan Mortazavi '19 stepped in at doubles line two and did not disappoint, pulling it out 8-6. Line three, Ethan Fisk '21 and Will Baschab '21, also had a nail biter but impressively came out victorious at 8-6. Girls' singles line two Shivani Kulkarni '20 looked strong and defeated her opponent 8-6, and girls' doubles line one Claudia Held '20 and Maggie Bienko '20 continued with their winning streak with an 8-5 victory. Though there were some losses in the mix, it was a beautiful day for Parish tennis!
On April 3 and 4, Parish Varsity Tennis played in the Tennis District Tournament took at Collin County Community College. In the boys' division captain Jad Charif '18, Alex Olmedo, Raunak Trivedi '18, Grant Carrington '20, Chase Barclay '20, and Lawson Wallace '21 represented Parish. On the girls' side, captain Kate Musselman '19, Dani Perales '19, Skylar Kaye '19, Blair Wartell '20, sophomore Anna Katharine Sullivan '20, and Dalia Charif '20 were the six players who represented their team. The players who finish in the top six places in both singles and doubles qualify for the State Tournament. Doubles duo, Musselman and Perales, continued their season with their unstoppable play and captured the District Doubles Title. J. Charif and Olmedo also had an impressive tournament and finished fourth in doubles. On the singles side, Barclay persevered through several long matches and third set tiebreakers, and his hard work paid off. Barclay finished in sixth place which qualified him for State. In girls' singles, Kaye also competed hard and was one win away from qualifying for State. Altogether, the Parish players were determined, played hard, won several rounds and now are looking forward to breaking through next year and having the whole team qualify for State. The team completes its season with a scrimmage against ESD on April 12 at UT-Dallas. From there on, Musselman, Perales, J. Charif, Olmedo, and Barclay compete in the State Tournament on April 16 and 17 in Waco.
On Friday, April 6 Parish Varsity Track and Field team competed in the Lions Relays hosted by Prestonwood Christian Academy. The results from the meet include:
