Panther Sports Highlights February 5-10

On Friday, February 9, Parish Swim teammates, Parker Benn ‘18, Andres Garcia ’19, James Gewax ’21, Aidan Johnson ’21 and Bailey Robinson ’18, traveled to the TAPPS State Championship in Mansfield, Texas. Benn won 200 IM and 100 fly setting two school records in the process. He also set a third school record in the 50 free leading off leg of the 200 free relay. Benn was named High Point Male Swimmer of the meet for the second year in the row! The boys 200 medley relay - Johnson, Robinson, Benn, and Gewax - improved their time and placed 15th. The boys 200 free relay with Benn, Robinson, Garcia, and Johnson improved their time as well and placed 12th. The team placed 11th overall. Way to go Panthers!

On Thursday, February 8, Panthers Varsity Baseball hosted FW Southwest Christian for their first game of the season. Parish came up short and lost 11-1 to the high powered offense and efficient pitching of Southwest Christian. Ryan Michlewicz ’20 took the loss on the mound. Michlewicz pitched three complete innings allowing four runs on three hits with one strikeout. Cole Tidmore ’18 and Jackson Harris ‘20 each had one hit in the game.

Panthers Varsity hosted Grace Community out of Tyler, Texas on Friday, February 9. Both teams were solid on the mound but Parish came through in the end with a 2-1 victory to improve to 1-1 on the season. Parish got things going in the first inning on a Ben Soule ’19 single on a 0-1 count to drive in the first run of the game. C. Tidmore tripled in the bottom of the seventh to lead off the inning and then scored on a wild pitch for the win. C. Tidmore was credited with the win for Parish on the mound. He threw two complete innings, allowing no runs on two hits and three strike outs. Aaron Tidmore ‘20 threw a solid 2/3 innings of relief out of the bullpen before older brother Cole came in to finish the job. Tyler Hamilton ’19 started the game for Parish on the mound and was outstanding. Hamilton threw four and 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits and seven strikeouts. The Panthers offense totaled seven hits in the game with Harris, C. Tidmore and Soule collecting multiple hits.

Basketball Girls
On Tuesday, February 6, Parish Girls’ Basketball took on John Paul II Lady Cardinals in TAPPS 1-6A district play. After a back and forth battle, the Panthers prevailed with a 40-38 victory. The girls were led by Nevaeh Parkinson ‘20 with 17 points. On Friday, February 9, they travelled to Ursuline Academy where they faced the Bears in district play and won 48-33. Neveah Tot ‘20 led all scorers with 18 points followed by Parkinson’s 15. The current record is 25-6.

The Panther Softball team faced HSAA in bitter cold temperatures on Monday, February 5. The loss was tough, but there were plenty of good moments. The girls swung the bat well; specifically Sarah Johnson ’20 who had a single and Ashley Awad ’20 had two stolen bases. This group of newcomers is showing improvement week after week!
