Parish theatre grabs the spotlight

Nominated for Best Musical in the recent Schmidt and Jones Awards, given to local students for high school musical theatre excellence, the Parish cast of the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has a lot to be proud of when it comes to their performances. Alexander Beys '15, Sarah Wang '18 and Meredith Wilcox '15 all walked away with an award from the event, which is sponsored by Lyric Stage and named for Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones, native Texans and creators of The Fantasticks, the longest running show in the history of the American theatre.

The Winning Categories:

Excellence in Lighting Design - Meredith Wilcox ('15)
Best Actress in a Supporting Role - Sarah Wang as Marcy Park ('18)
Best Actor in a Leading Role - Alexander Beys as Barfee ('15)

The trio was honored at the awards ceremony held at the Irving Arts Center’s Carpenter Performance Hall in May. After the event, they sat down to share their excitement with The Dallas Morning News reporter, Carl Youngberg. Read more

Best Actress in a Leading Role - Maggie Bossalini ('18) as Olive
Best Actor in a Supporting Role - Nick Weinman ('16) as Leaf Coneybear
Best Actress in a Minor Role - Alison Mueller ('16) as Olive’s Mom  
Best Male Ensemble Performer - Michael Griffin ('17)
Best Female Ensemble Performer - Abbey Perry ('18)
