Parish Lower School students in 1st-4th grades presented their original designs during the Invention Convention in the Great Hall on the Midway campus. For the Invention Convention, each grade is assigned a different project, and students are tasked with planning, engineering and designing their own creations within that area.
1st grade students were given a group of ingredients, and had to determine which combination and mixture of materials would yield a substance closest to play-doh. As a part of their study on motion, 2nd grade students were asked to design roller coasters. 3rd grade students designed an 18-hole mini golf course as part of their simple machine unit, using power tools in the Design Den and calculations based on slope and other formulas to design the obstacles. 4th grade students designed dinosaur habitats after learning about the individual needs of each species during their dinosaur unit.
