  Around Campus

This week, possibly more than any so far this year, it’s been about collaboration in the Parish Universe. Enjoy …

The fans turned out this morning to cheer on our Varsity Girls volleyball team as they took on Houston 2nd Baptist at TCU in the State Final Four! The Lady Panthers took it to five games before bowing out. What a great season this team has had! Congratulations, girls, for not only your success on the court, but also for your teamwork, leadership and grace.

vday_110907Our annual Veterans’ Day celebration was another way the community came together in recognition of others. Thursday’s Midway Eucharist welcomed guest speakers from Ft. Hood, including Major David Patton – son of our own Mr. Patton who teaches Upper School English. This morning, Upper Elementary, Middle School and Upper School students welcomed veterans whom they know to morning Chapel, and recognized their service to this country in front of the entire community. What a great act of respect and honor!

nature_110907Eighth grade science students also had the opportunity to share our Midway Campus with a representative of the North Texas Discovery Gardens. The class took a naturalist’s expedition on the grounds to discuss bees, fire ants, take the creek water temperature (59 degrees) and measure and map rocks.

The Hillcrest Campus was full of first and second grade dads this morning for Fathers’ Visiting Day. This is not only VERY EXCITING for the students, but for the daddies as well. Hint moms: we know who can charm the socks off these dads, and a few of them aren’t even four feet tall!

  Weekend Update

The Varsity Volleyball team isn’t the only team to advance in playoffs around here. The fifth grade football team has advanced to the playoff semifinal game. It takes on St. Monica at 6 p.m., Sunday, here.

Varsity Football wraps-up regular season play tonight at First Baptist. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.  Panthers enter playoff contests next weekend.

Some of our students are participating in the Texas Private School Music Educators Association’s Honor Choir Weekend today and tomorrow, and JV basketball and varsity soccer are in action tomorrow.

open_house_110907All of this success and activity will make good talking points at our Midway Open House. It runs from 1-3 p.m., tomorrow, and we are expecting a great turn out. Please send any families you know who are interested in Parish our way, and Hillcrest families are welcome to come take a look at the Midway Campus if you would like a tour from our Upper School students. It’s a great opportunity to become familiar with what goes on in our upper grades.

Also, thank you in advance for sharing your students with us during Open House. They really are the best spokesmen for this school. They are so poised, enthusiastic and well-spoken. We are so very proud of them!

  Hot Topic

This week’s Hot Topic is really more of a mass appeal. As is the case with any community, we have traditions. The exciting part about being a part of the Parish Community is we are still dreaming up new ones.

ms_choir_110907One of these new additions to student life is the Middle School Madrigal Dinner. For the event, the Midway Campus Atrium will be transformed into a medieval dining hall, complete with appropriate menu and entertainment.

Please mark your calendars for Nov. 29. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., and a program by our seventh and eighth grade musical theatre class and the Middle School choir will follow.

Period attire is welcome, and a limited number of tickets are still available for $25 each. Please contact Greg Whitmore (x2331) or Jerry Hutton (x2399) for ticket purchases, more program information, or for ways to help.

Let’s all get out and support Our School and members of Our Community as we build upon our already great traditions!

  Parish PA

ddavies_110907The Parents Association would like to thank Parish Community Service Director, Karen O’Rear, for organizing Parish Live! Also, thank you to the parent community for turning out to support the Wednesday event.

The Prestonwood Barnes & Noble was a happenin’ place Wednesday evening when more than 100 Parish students entertained hundreds of Parish families and other customers. Our students, grades 1 through 12, sang, danced, dressed up in Ancient Greek costumes and displayed photography for the evening.

About $1,100 was raised from book sales at the location to go toward Happy Homes, Parish’s and Transfig’s South African School. Thank you, again, for your wonderful support.
