It’s been all about School spirit around here this week. Oh yeah, Halloween, too. Enjoy …
This week was Upper School Spirit Week, just in case you were wondering what all the weird (we mean “cool”) hats, socks and outfits were all about. Judging by the enthusiasm level that’s been catching, tonight’s game should be FULL OF FUN AND ENERGY!!!
Our oldest students, however, did find the time to show great leadership for a serious cause. Midway students participated in November In-Gathering, which was a Religious Life and Community Service project that teamed up with International Rescue Committee to bring basic food items for new refugee families. Thank you for raising such warm, caring children!
And talk about some AMAZING kids, our fourth graders took some vocabulary words, (and we mean some BIG words that some of us adults might have a difficult time using in context) looked up the definition and made hats that demonstrated them. Find some fourth graders and ask them about it. Their answers, for lack of a better word, will AMAZE you.
The fun continued at the Hillcrest Campus where our students dressed up for Halloween! There were Parish cheerleaders, cute animals, fire fighters and superheroes, just to name a few! PRECIOUS! However, Thursday’s costumes took on a more serious tone as students dressed for the All Saints Parade in honor of All Saints Day. Whew, give the Early Childhood parents a pat on the back. They’ve been BUSY this week.
Finally, in the “don’t you wish you could be your kids” category, our seventh graders have been in Catalina all week. They went kayaking, snorkeling, composting, worked out on the high ropes course and even spotted some whales. And what would a trip to paradise be without chasing crabs? The students and their faculty and staff chaperones land tonight. Let’s all keep them in our prayers as they travel.

Weekend Update

The hustle and bustle of the week doesn’t end at the final bell today. In fact, our students are heading straight for the gym for our televised Homecoming Pep Rally. The Why Guy will be here, so set those TiVos for the 5 p.m. Channel 8 broadcast. The enthusiasm will spill over to the Sports Complex as the Panthers take on Shelton at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday night, the Homecoming festivities continue with the aptly decorated (complete understatement) Homecoming Dance. The dance is from 8 p.m. to midnight, but parents can catch a sneak peek from 6:30-7:30 p.m. You should really come check it out.
Letting loose on the dance floor will come at the end of a busy day for some of our students. There is an SAT testing date, and our Lady Panther Volleyball team takes on Midland Christian at 6 p.m. at Argyle Liberty Christian in Regional Playoff action. Varsity Swimming and Varsity Girls basketball have competitions on Saturday, as well. Hang in there Upper School parents. It looks like the School calendar is giving y’all Sunday off!
Not the case for Middle School parents. Our sixth grade football team takes on St. Mark Catholic at Williams Field in Plano, and our seventh and eighth graders square off against St. Patrick at home. Both of these playoff games kick off at 2 p.m.
LET’S GO PANTHERS!!!!

We’re sorry to inform you that there is a conspiracy going on. The powers that be have decided that you and your family DO NOT need to stay on a routine. The proof – Daylight Savings Time ends this Sunday at 2 a.m. Please remember to “fall back,” or you’ll be showing up an hour early to school on Monday!
Catch your extra zzzzzzz’s! You’ve earned them!

The Midway campus was transformed into acres of fun on Oct. 26, hosting the annual Freaky Friday.
More than 1,600 attended this fall celebration. Supported by 167 volunteers, including 33 students, it was a huge success! 7,800 confetti eggs were tossed, and the colorful remains of 1,100 cans of Silly String decorated the grounds. The Freaky M.A.S.H. Hospital bandaged about 200 kids, and the spooktacular Bake Sale provided monstrous treats to hungry students and parents throughout the day and night!
Many thanks to all who helped make this a wonderful family event! And special thanks to the hard-working event chairpersons: Bill Piazza, Kelley Rusten, Kate Anderson and Robin Vettoretti.
