We’ve pulled out all the stops around here this week. Take a peek at what the Parish Universe had in store for your children – and you! Enjoy …
It was all about the dads this morning at Hillcrest as our pre-k and kindergarten students charmed their daddies by bringing them to school and giving them the grand tour. Fathers Visiting Day is a special time and a good talking point with the little ones. But parents weren’t the only recent visitors to Hillcrest. The pre-k II students welcomed FIRE FIGHTERS! Engines blaring, this trip was part of the October unit on fire safety.
Upper Elementary students have been waking up EARLY to make it to 7:30 a.m. math club. During this time before school, students are able to hone their math skills in a fun, yet productive way.
The Middle School was busy with everything from prepping for Halloween to serving the community. Bo Bernard’s fifth grade writing class composed Halloween tales to read to classmates, and the young authors even dressed the part! Mary Hearty’s class took their talents to the North Dallas Food Bank. Each fifth grade advisory takes turns packing Friday snack bags for children in the greater Dallas community. Thank your children for the efforts to make this a better place to live!
A bit of culture came to Upper School Spanish classes Wednesday. An Italian and Spanish teacher from Argentina spoke to classes, and then many of our students learned the Tango. Maybe they learned enough to teach you!

Weekend Update

Parts of the Midway Campus have been turned into a Haunted House for Freaky Friday, today, 4-7 p.m. Get out and have some Halloween Fun while supporting our school!
That’s if you’re not on your way to Tyler Grace to support our Varsity Football team. Kick off is at 7:30 p.m.
We are hosting Varsity Volleyball Bi-District playoffs at 4 p.m., tomorrow. Let’s get out and support our girls as they take on Lubbock Trinity Christian. Plus, our cross country team will be at the state meet in San Antonio tomorrow.
Three Middle School football games on Sunday wrap-up our weekend competitions. Good luck to our athletes!
*Note to Upper School parents. Remember there is an ACT testing date scheduled for tomorrow.
Also, please take the time to congratulate our thespians on their sold-out weekend production, “The Complete History of America (abridged).”

Yesterday the Parish Community came together in an unprecedented way. As part of the first Legacy event, our first through 12th graders met on the Midway Campus for a 45-minute lunch and time to mingle. It was an eye-opening, wonderful experience that can’t be fully described in this Scoop. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ask your children what they learned and about the connections they made. An example of what you might find out: One third grader said it was “so neat” because he was able to “see the big kids and to actually get to talk to them.”
This was a highly-organized task that took hours and hours of planning. It might be nice to thank those who helped make such a wonderful program happen. And stay tuned for details on the next event that will happen in the spring.
Talk about great timing. This Legacy kick-off event was a great lead in to our next huge community event – HOMECOMING. Next Friday, Nov. 2, is a school wide spirit day. Come dressed in your red and blue (except Upper School students who may wear their Homecoming t-shirts during the day) and get pumped up for the big game. Also, Upper Schoolers are encouraged to bring a change of clothes to wear red and blue for the All School Prime Time Pep Rally with the Why Guy. It begins right after school, so let’s pack the gym. GO PANTHERS!

Parish Episcopal School has embarked on the self-evaluation component of our 10-year accreditation, and your participation in this effort is vital. We cannot formulate an accurate picture of the school without your help. Please take a moment to complete the online survey –a critical component of our self-evaluation study and a collaborative effort that encompasses the criteria for accreditation by both the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) and the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools (SAES).
The survey will close on Sunday, October 28. Thank you very much for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please call Amy Ariagno at 972.239.8011 x2163.
