  Around Campus

Buckle up! May is just gettin’ started, and it is already full speed ahead! Enjoy…

There’s nothing that says it’s the last month of school like a car on the fourth floor. (Yes, a REAL car, on the FOURTH FLOOR. You read that right.)  Seniors get props for prank creativity, and we’re still trying to figure out how they got it up there. But, how does that one go again? Oh, right, what you don’t know…

book-fair050208Serious business did go on in these hallowed halls of learning – despite the scenic distractions. Fourth through 10th graders were focused on ERB testing, and we’re sure they are ready to decompress a little. WHEW… glad THAT’S over with!

Hillcrest was equally abuzz this week. Pre-k II jazzed the place up with their musical performances; the Book Fair was in full swing, and some kindergartners took fourth place at the Private School Superbowl of Chess!

Told ya’. It’s BUSYaround here.

  Hot Topic

tapestry_05020802The “Cactus Flower” wall hanging couldn’t have reappeared in the Midway Atrium at a more appropriate time – the beginning of a week filled with arts events.

Last year, the 1,000 pound fiber art mural fell. Once it was down, the muted mural, which was hand-woven in India, began its transformation to its previous, vibrant splendor. A restoration artist cleaned it and hand painted it before museum installation experts raised the 32-foot long by 16-foot wide wall hanging back to its original location, inch-by-inch, on Monday.

“Cactus Flower” was front and center for Midway Arts Night last night. The Great Hall and Atrium were PACKED!!!! Thank you to our entire community for turning out in support of our visual and performing arts students during this AWESOME evening.

And while you’re at it, let’s not forget that spring is in the air, and what better time to cut “Footloose”? You don’t want to miss this year’s musical performance, which is now showing in the Blackbox Theater. If you missed opening night last night, 7:30 p.m. performances are slated for tonight and tomorrow, and there will be a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday. All tickets are $10 and worth every penny! Check out the Parish web site for more info and dress rehearsal photos.
