Sports Medicine Student Trainer Program
Do you like sports? Are you interested in a career in the medical field?
Athletic Training could be the answer.

WHAT IS AN ATHLETIC TRAINER?
The athletic trainer is responsible for the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries. 

Duties include but are not limited to:
•  Selecting, designing, and fitting protective equipment.
•  Application of preventive bracing and taping
•  Administering first aid to injured athletes.
•  Developing and supervising rehabilitation programs.
•  Maintaining medical records.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE STUDENT TRAINER?

•  Assist the athletic trainer.
•  Duties include but not limited to:
•  Prevent dehydration
•  Assist with taping
•  Assist with first aid of injured athletes
•  Assist with evaluation of injuries
•  All other duties required to make sure things run smoothly during practice.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BEING A STUDENT TRAINER?

•  Can receive a letter
•  Travel with and be part of a team.
•  Gain knowledge that will help you if you plan on entering a career in the medical field.  You will learn things like anatomy, injury evaluation, and rehabilitation procedures.
•  Possibility of receiving a scholarship to go to college as a student trainer.
•  Athletic Training is a growing field with plenty of job openings now and more to come in the future.

HOW TO BECOME A STUDENT TRAINER?

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
•  Interested in medical field or sports (both are preferred)
•  Maintain a 2.0 GPA
•  Reference letter from a teacher
•  Be willing to be at all practices and games to which you are assigned.
•  A commitment of no less than one year.  It is possible to obtain some observation hours before you commit.
•  Willingness to work hard all the time and play hard at the right time.
