2013 Summer
Academy
ParishVirtual Summer Academy offers challenging and enriching courses that involve a combination of traditional, classroom instruction and innovative, online course work. Inspired by research, these courses are designed, developed, and taught by Parish teachers. Students receive Parish credit for each course – please check with your school's administration in advance to be sure that credits transfer.
At Parish, we believe that school must prepare students to live and work in a new economy: powered by technology, fueled by collaboration, and driven by critical, creative thinking. In The Global Achievement Gap, Tony Wagner suggests that the rapid evolution of 21st century technology “compels a fundamental reconsideration of all of our assumptions about what children need to learn and how learning takes place.”
The fact that every student with a smartphone can instantly access factual information means that teaching and learning must evolve. Teachers must inspire students to collaborate with purpose; synthesize concepts; apply new ideas; and take a heightened sense of ownership for their own learning.
