Weekly Eucharist at Parish

August 2007

Dear Parents,

As we strive this year to be A Community of Excellence we will continue in our tradition of weekly Thursday Eucharist for grades 5-12. Third and fourth will join on the first and third Thursdays of each month.

As we come to understand what it means to be a community of God’s people gathered together in worship and in prayer, all students and adults are expected to come forward to receive a prayer, a non-denominational blessing, or the sacrament.  Any student who has been baptized is welcome to receive the sacrament of bread and wine with their hands extended and open. Any student who would prefer a blessing will come forward with their arms crossed over their chests.  Any student, who would prefer a prayer, will come forward with their hands together in prayer.

The wording for each of these is as follows:
Prayer: “God, we give you thanks for (name of person).”
Blessing: “May God bless you and keep you today and always”
Sacrament: “The body of Christ, the bread of heaven”

As students of all denominations, traditions and religious expressions stand up and come forward, one after another either for prayer, for blessing or for the sacrament, they reflect our community of excellence and reaffirm our profound belief at Parish that each person is a child of faith, to be honored, respected and witnessed. With this movement in the work of the liturgy, our worship is enhanced and we are able to see what unites us which is our dependence upon the Divine.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

In Faith,
