Upper Elementary Community Service Students in the 3rd and 4th grades participate in age appropriate service projects with their classmates to strengthen student relationships, enrich classroom instruction and stress the concept that they are not too young to make a difference in the lives of others.
- Third graders give their support to animal shelters like the SPCA and Operation Kindness. They collect and donate needed supplies and learn about the problem of abandoned animals during their tour of the shelter. In computer class they make holiday cards for clients of agencies like Meals on Wheels and Parkland Hospital.
- Fourth graders support Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, making goodie bags, tray place mats, door decorations and cards for the patients. During a tour at the hospital they learn about the many ways this facility helps children with disabilities. Since the beginning of the war in Iraq, 4th graders have adopted soldiers and supported US Armed Forces through sending cards of thanks and goodie boxes to soldiers.
Through a student leadership organization, EIA (Excellence in Action), members sponsor many projects to engage the Upper Elementary students in helping others.
