Math, Speech & Debate Results  January 31, 2008
The Math team represented Parish well at the Cistercian High School math competition on January 19. Parish place fourth place overall in the team sweepstakes trophy. Freshman Andrew Wells placed third in the Individual scoring and third in the Algebra Closed competition and 2nd in the Geometry Closed competition.

Other competitors earning awards were: Griff Moore, 2nd Place Algebra Open; Kelsey Musselman, 5th Place Geometry Open; Will Hall, 3rd Place; and Chris Correll, 4th Place Geometry Closed. In Advanced Topics, Parish placed three students: 4th Place, Carolyn Syer; 5th Place, Hayley Hatfield; 6th Place, Jonathan Pirkey.

Meanwhile, the Speech and Debate Team continued their winning ways. Last Saturday the team traveled to Holy Trinity Catholic High School. In Lincoln-Douglas debate Alec Thoveson placed 6th, Radhika Dayal placed 4th, and Will Hall placed 3rd. Blake Andrews was the first place winner in Lincoln-Douglas. Blake also placed 10th in Impromptu Speaking. The Group Improv Group of Daniel Pappas, John Baird, and Oliver Sherren earned first place honors.

On Jan 11th and 12th at the Shady Grove Speech and Drama tournament a number of Parish students earned awards:  Ted Moreland, Morgan Slottje and Daniel Pappas earned 6th place in Group Improv, Kyles Hughes placed 4th in Solo Acting and 6th in Prose Interpretation. Radhika Dayal placed 5th in Persuasive Speaking and Joseph Lafferty placed 4th in Persuasive Speaking. This Friday, Alex Storey travels to the State Debate Tournament after qualifying in the regional tournament.  Next week is the TAPPS Academic competition-look for more good news from the Upper School!
