We did it! 12,000 jars of peanut butter
April 21, 2008
Parish delivered more than 12,000 jars of peanut butter to the North Texas Food Bank on Sunday afternoon. Parish exceeded its goal of 10,000 jars and turned in the highest total of the 10 non-profit organizations. The peanut butter drive was designed by “Oprah’s Big Give”,  a nationally televised reality show to encourage sharing resources throughout communities.

Parish collected approximately 12,400 jars during the last month from students, families and faculty at its two campuses. Parish upper school students filled a 14-foot U-Haul moving truck and five SUVs with peanut butter.

Parish was one of 10 local organizations selected by the North Texas Food Bank to participate.

Oprah's popular reality TV show and ABC distributed a total of $1 million in $10,000 increments to ABC affiliates to challenge cities to leverage the cash to better their communities. The rules of the game are to choose a local nonprofit agency to work through.

Dallas affiliate WFAA Channel 8 chose the North Texas Food Bank, specifically the Food 4 Kids program as the beneficiary organization. The NTFB’s Food 4 Kids program supplies school-aged children with nutritious, kid-friendly food designed to fill a backpack and feed them over the weekend during the school year.

Parish regularly collects and distributes food for the North Texas Food Bank throughout the year.

Oprah’s Big Drop-off
April 7, 2008
Parish’s part of Oprah’s Big Give--trying to collect 10,000 plastic jars of peanut butter for the North Texas Food Bank--will get a little easier Wednesday, April 9. There will be a collection during the morning carpool at the Hillcrest Campus from 7:15 a.m. until 8 a.m. The Parish Panther, cheerleaders and football players will be among the Upper School students collecting all things peanut butter.

For a shopping tip: Kroger has 18 oz. jars on sale for $1 apiece.

There will be a peanut butter carpool at the Midway Campus next Wednesday, April 16. The deadline to reach our goal is the April 20 broadcast of Oprah’s Big Give on ABC-TV.

Parish Plays Part in ‘Oprah’s Big Give’
March 31, 2008
Now through April 20 the Parish community is rallying to gather 10,000 jars of peanut butter as part of “Oprah’s Big Give, Operation North Texas.”

In the spirit of giving, the wildly popular reality show and ABC are distributing a total of $1 million in $10,000 increments to ABC affiliates to challenge cities to leverage the cash to better their communities. The rules of the game are to choose a local nonprofit agency to work through.

Dallas affiliate WFAA Channel 8 has chosen the North Texas Food Bank, specifically the Food 4 Kids program as the beneficiary organization. The NTFB’s Food 4 Kids program supplies school-aged children with nutritious, kid-friendly, self-serve food designed to fill a backpack and feed them over the weekend during the school year. The current goal for the program is to distribute 4,500 backpacks in 180 schools by the end of the school year.

To help feed the children who qualify for this program, Parish is encouraged to GIVE BIG!

By Friday, April 18, we are asking each family to bring 10, 18 oz or smaller, nonperishable, plastic jars of peanut butter.

As a Food Bank campaign partner, our community is invited to the Wrap-up Event, April 20 at the North Texas Food Bank. Highlights will include refreshments, celebrities and cameras, so mark your calendars!
