Service in the Middle School Service that is meaningful is the result of an understanding of a need and working to meet this need. Community Service in the Middle School is designed to offer age appropriate opportunities to help raise students’ awareness of social issues through learning about area agencies that reach out to the community in which we live and coming up with projects to help. By participating in service projects for the agencies, the students become more sensitive to the needs of others and reinforce the belief that we serve God by serving others.
It is our goal in MS to offer a varied service menu to reach out to help the elderly, children in hospitals and foster care, the working poor and the homeless and hungry.
- For over twenty years the fifth graders have supported the North Texas Food Bank. Each fifth grade advisory is scheduled to tour the food bank and to work in the warehouse, packing hundred of boxes of non-perishable food to be delivered to many agencies in our community.
- Sixth graders participate in many projects throughout the year to help the homeless clients at Austin Street Centre. Each advisory tours the shelter at some time during the year and serves lunches that they have prepared. After learning about the needs of the people at the shelter, the sixth graders have sponsored various drives to collect needed items.
- Seventh and Eight graders participate in off-campus workdays where they volunteer at agencies in the Dallas area. This gives the students hands-on experiences to respond to needs while cooperating with peers and developing leadership skills. Over the past years, the students have volunteered at Treemont Retirement Center, C C Young, Bryan’s Place, Metrocrest Services, Rainbow Room at Community Partners, Salvation Army and many others.
- MS students participate in making sandwiches and assembling lunches once a month for Community Partners of Dallas Peanut Butter and Jelly Project. Also many 7th and 8th graders participate in service projects with their Parish sport teams and through membership in National Junior Honor Society.
