A Profile of The Parish Graduate
The Parish Episcopal School graduate will be committed to • serving the community • pursuing intellectual growth, self-actualization, and physical health • respecting religious traditions • abiding by ethical principles • honoring diversity in our community
The Community Our community service program provides opportunities for students to experience hands-on interactions with segments of the community that often escape our daily routine. Our Episcopal, faith-based setting requires service to and with others. We expect our graduates to develop a lifelong habit of volunteering as part of their responsibility to be good citizens in our greater community.
Pursuing Intellectual Growth, Self Actualization, and Physical Health The philosophy of The Parish Episcopal School throughout its curriculum is to promote not only the acquisition of information, but also the thoughtful questioning and analysis of that information. Our goal is a well-educated young person who can critically analyze information from a variety of sources whether classical literature, scientific journals or daily news reports.
The athletic program and physical education classes offered are designed to promote physical fitness and well-being. The value of daily physical exercise is promoted as a method of enhancing overall personal growth.
Respecting Religious Traditions The Parish Episcopal School wholeheartedly embraces the Episcopal history of tolerance, inclusiveness and ministry with others. The affirmation of Episcopal beliefs of worship and service does not preclude the appreciation for and respect of other religious traditions. Common worship is key in our community life and a critical component of the Episcopal faith. Daily chapel services allow us to congregate as a community and reflect on our own human experiences of God’s presence and purpose in the world. Most importantly, chapel is a time for the community as a whole to discern the importance and effect of our choices on the larger world.
Abiding by Ethical Principles The high school years, often marked by dramatic physical growth, allow us at The Parish Episcopal School the opportunity to nurture students’ spiritual growth and ethical stoutness as they enter adulthood and become full members of our community. Our goal is to have graduates who make sound ethical choices in college and beyond.
The faculty serves as role models who make choices based on a strong moral framework. Our chapel services remind us of long-standing traditions and lessons that influence our daily decision-making while our community service program provides opportunities to act on our beliefs.
Honoring Diversity in our Community The Parish Episcopal School believes a diverse student body and faculty enriches and strengthens every aspect of our community. It is a conscious decision by the school to promote the unique talents and qualities of our students, some of which have been formed by various ethnic, cultural, economic and religious backgrounds. It is the respectful exchange of different experiences and ideas that broaden our world-view and allow us to appreciate diverse concepts and ideas.
