Alternative Physical Education
The Director of Physical Education will have final approval on all alternative physical education experiences. The Director or member of their staff will be in contact with the supervisor of the activity as well making hands on visits to the experience.  The student may be required to re-enter the physical education class if participation in the alternative activity stops or minimal fitness levels are not maintained.

Basic requirements for alternative physical education

Upper School

  1. Activity must be a recognized Olympic Sport.
  2. A minimum of 10-15 hours of participation in the activity per week
  3. Training in the activity must be at a level that is higher then can be offered in the school setting.
  4. The activity cannot be an activity that is currently offered at Parish Episcopal School.
  5. The activity will count towards the one of the two graduation credits required in physical education. The other credit must be obtained through the participation in physical education classes.
  6. It is the student’s responsibility to report in to the Director of Physical Education at the end of each week to confirm the status of the activity.

Specific for Middle school:

  • Alternative physical education is only an option for students in the 7th and 8th grades. 
  • Upon approval, students meeting the above requirements may substitute one trimester of study hall for one of the three required trimesters of physical education class during a specific year.

Applications for alternative physical education are obtained directly from the Director of Athletics.
