Upper Elementary School Division Profile Grades Three and Four
Appreciation of individual excellence enhances the academic, spiritual and social potential of young students... Grades three and four are located on the Midway campus. Located at the corner of Midway and Alpha Roads, the Midway Campus is a state-of-the-art facility, designed by world-renowned architect I.M. Pei. Breathtaking in architecture and design, the Midway Campus creates an environment that provides the perfect backdrop for older students to develop academically and socially.
The upper elementary years serve to strengthen the academic, spiritual and social foundation built during the primary years. PES strives to bring upper elementary students to their potential in all core curriculum subjects, and to foster exploration of individual talents in enrichment areas such as athletics, fine arts, and Spanish. As a complement to the curriculum, focus is given to developing students’ emerging understanding of the world at large through interaction with their peers as well as through community service.
In preparation for middle school, the upper elementary school faculty members encourage student appreciation of individual independence, excellence, and responsibility, using a philosophy of gentle guidance. A major emphasis is in nurturing each student to become a confident and self-motivated learner, as well as a positive and respectful participant in the school community. The upper elementary school programs are characterized by encouraging students to “reach” for growth and to become enthusiasts as emerging, life-long learners.
