PHOTOGRAPHY II >> VISION STATEMENT (sample)
PROJECT TITLE: Katrina’s Kids
THEME: The
challenges faced by Katrina survivor kids as they adapt into their new schools
in the DFW area
DESCRIPTION:
What do I plan
to achieve?
My goal is to
locate and photograph children who have been evacuated from their homes and
communities and capture images that document their adaptation to a completely
new reality. I plan to create images that will range from photo-journalistic
shots in the classroom and at school, to more intimate portraits that reveal
their fears, struggles and victories.
Where do you
plan to shoot?
I plan to
contact schools in the DFW area, starting from local Episcopalian schools and
other private academies as well as selected public schools. I will select
schools that have Katrina survivors attending and that will be open to my
project.
How do you
plan to capture your images?
Due to the
sobering nature of this project and to the fact that the focus will be on the
emotions and subtle aspects of their plight, I plan to shoot all in black and
white with my digital camera, editing for maximum contrast and best gray curve.
I do not plan to use a flash, so I will use wide apertures (f-stops) and high
ASA. W. Eugene Smith and Sebastiao Salgado are two photographers whose images
inform my project.
