Update from 10/22/07 class meeting:

For Wed. 10/24/07:  Turn in Bierce vocabulary words (found on the last page of “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge”).  Turn in (i.e., bring with you to class) your observations for each chapter of HF.  Bring HF book to class.

Complete the essay assignment for Ambrose Bierce’s “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.”  Here are the assignment instructions that you were given in class:

Homework Essay Assignment:  You are to choose one of the main categories (Narration, Setting, Conflict and Plot, Character, Language and Style—BUT NOT Theme) of the “Fiction Analysis: ‘An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge’” handout (from 10/12/07 class) and write an essay of at least 350 words/one page (typed, double-spaced, 12-font, standard margins) and no more than two pages that answers the pertinent questions found under the category you have chosen to write about.

Do not write separate answers to the “bullet point” questions under the category heading.  Instead, develop and incorporate your answers to these questions into a coherent, unified essay with an introduction, body, and conclusion.  Your thesis can relate to which category you are writing about.  (Ex.: “The setting in Ambrose Bierce’s ‘An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge’ is not only the American Civil War but . . . .”  OR: “The narrator’s point of view in Ambrose Bierce’s “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” carries a strong sense of . . . .”  OR:  “Peyton Farquhar’s character in Ambrose Bierce’s ‘An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge’ is less than believable because . . . .”  )

This essay is to be completed and handed in at the beginning of our next class meeting (Mon. October 22, 2007).
