If you are re-taking the Chapter 11 test, you need to complete it on Monday by the end of the day.

Homework:

both classes read text pages 482-496

do problems starting on p. 492 #1-8 all, 9,11,13, 21 (hint for 21: the cylinder and cone must have the same volume since there is the same amount of material in them.)

7A class also do pg. 485 2-18 all (pyramids)

If you did not do the homework for Friday 5/15 you are risking missing

points on the final!!!!

Due Friday 5/15/09:

  Homework Assignments & General Information

THE AP EXAM IS TUESDAY 5/5/2009 IN THE BOARD ROOM!!

Monday 5/4/09: no homework due; review for the AP Exam.

Due Tuesday 4/27/09:  Work the review-quiz on correlation and regression I handed out in class.  If you were absent this is still due on Tuesday.  CLICK HERE for a copy.

Due Friday 4/24/09: READ Ch. 26, work p. 628 problems 1,3,5,7,9,11. These are like the activity we did in class (GOF). Problems 17, 19 are tests of independence (or homogeneity) - use the examples in the text to try these.

For Wednesday 4/22: The take-home exam is due at the beginning of the hour. You can find the multiple choice answer sheet and a copy of the groundrules for this exam HERE.

For Thursday 4/16/09:

Chapter 13, Questions starting on pg. 313. 1-11 odd. 23, 25, 27.

I will distribute the tests during the second half of the period and give you a chance to read them and ask questions. The test covers Chapters 12,13, and 19-25. Yes, that's a lot of material.  The questions will come primarily from previous versions of the AP Statistics Exam, both multiple choice and free response.

Due Tuesday 4/14/09: Read Chapter 12 and Chapter 13. The list of terms at the end of each chapter is important!

Answer Questions on pg. 189: (these are short if you've read the material) 1-10, 13, 14, 15, 19, 23

Click link for SOLUTIONS TO THE 4/8/09 HOMEWORK

For Wednesady 4/8/09: Read Chapter 24 and Chapter 25. Chapter 25 raises the issue of experiment design and sampling which I will cover in more detail on Monday, but you should undestand the concepts of paired data and the difference between matched pairs and unmatched samples. (Do you want to know about the mean difference, or the difference of the means?)

Work these problems: Ch. 24 pg. 567 #7, 9, 13.  Ch. 25 Pg.588-589 #9, 11, 13 You can get the data from the textbook website or off the CD that came with your book.

For Thursday 3/26:

Read Chapter 23 (pp 520-540). Especially note the 'What Can Go Wrong' on pages 537-538.

Work These Problems - be prepared to discuss your results or ask questions.

Beginning Page 541: #1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 15, 17, 21

For Wednesday 3/11:  There will be a quiz on Ch. 20-22 (confidence intervals+ hypothesis tests). Homework problems HERE are similar to what you should expect. You'll find the solutions HERE, if you can read my handwriting.

For Monday 3/9/09: Read Ch. 22. Work problems on p. 507-508 #1,3,5,7,9

For Thursday 3/5/09: p.492, problems 11 through 23 ODD only.

For Tuesday 3/3/09 : Read Chapter 21; pay particular attention to the section titled “Making Errors” starting on pg. 482 to the end of the chapter.  This material is basically about gaining a better understanding of the hypothesis testing procedure and it’s ramifications, so be sure you are grasping the terms and concepts in the chapter.  Check yourself against the chapter summary starting on pg. 488.  No written work to hand in for Tuesday.

ADVANCED ALGEBRA w/TRIGONOMETRY

FINAL EXAM INFO
Exam is Tuesday May 26 at 8:30 am. in room 3022.
If you are on the list of extended time students, you MUST take your exam in the designated location. No exceptions.
Click here for the review handout
Click here for the review problems; answers are on the last pages

CLASS NOTES

You should be familiar with the Standard International prefixes for time and frequency expressions in the range "giga-" to "nano-".  A good reference table is available from the National Bureau of Standards.

Homework Assignments & General Information

Modeling Projects for the third trimester are due Tuesday 5/12/09.

Homework Due 5/6/09:

Problems from the class handout (p.663-664): #1, 2, 4 (all parts)

For a copy of the handout see Mr. Hanson or CLICK HERE.

Monday 4/27/09: page 495 problems 6-10. Be sure you have read the relevant section of chapter 7 on sound waves. NOTE: the answers in your text book assume the problems are being worked in degrees rather than radians.  Here are radian answers:

7a) sin(2[pi]*261.63t) for C and sin(2[pi]*329.63t) for E

9c) sin(2[pi]*440t)

Friday 4/24/09: read Chapter 7 in text.

Wednesday 4/22/09: no homework; prepare for the test.

Due Monday 4/20/09: As instructed in class, use the sunrise-sunset table I gave you to plot the time of sunrise and the time of sunse for the first day of each month (two separate plots).

For each, estimate the amplitdue, period, median, and derive and equation in the form (A sin (ft))+MEDIAN)

You can get a copy of the data HERE.

For Thursday 4/16/09:

The quiz planned for Tuesday was postponed due to a chorus of moaning and grief from y'all. Don't say I never did anything for you.

To prepare re-work some problems from the text on these topics in Ch. 6 and 7:

 - comparing and converting radian and degree measure of angles

 - basic quantities of period functions: amplitude, frequency, period, and bias

 - creating graphs and understanding graphs of sine and cosine functions with varying values for A, f, & C: A sin (2[pi]Ft)+C

For Tuesday 4/14/09 pg. 494 1,3,5,7,8,9.

There will be a quiz next class covering radian measure of angles and the sine and cosine functions (graphing and transforming with A,F, and C for amplitude, frequency, and constant (offset or bias)).

For Wednesday 4/8/09: pg. 483, 1,3,5,7 + pg. 494, S1-S11.

For Monday 4/6/09:

Review the classnotes (CLICK HERE) if you were not in class.

Work these problems: p. 454 S1-S11 (Skill Building, top of page) plus Exercises 1,3,5,9, & 10.

For Thursday 3/26/09: There will be a quiz over right-triangle trigonometry. The homework for 3/9/09 (below) covered this material - if you are having trouble, rework these problems.

For next class, complete these problems from the end of chapter 6:

p. 470-472 #1, 3. 8, 9 a & b, 10, 11, 12, 15 (omit part d of 15). The quiz will be comparable to these problems.

For Wed. 3/11/09: Complete the graph of the measurement activity we worked on during class. The class notes file (link above) gives some suggestions. You will have a graph of angles (x-axis) with sine and cosine points for each angle you measured. None of the points should have a y-value outside the range -1 to +1; if they do you have made an error.

Everyone should prepare their own graph, not just one for the group.

For Monday 3/9/09:

1. Complete the previous assignment if you haven't already done so!!!

2. Work Exercises starting on p. 465 in the textbook: #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 13

Extra Credit: What is a 'transit' referred to in these problems? Who would use one? Why? Find a picture of one.

For Thursday 3/5/09: Pg. 444 1-4,13, 15,17,19 and pg. 465: S1-S14 (Skill Builder Exercises)

For Tuesday 3/3/09 : No homework due – we start a new unit. You will need your textbooks and a calculator.
