HEROES FOR CHILDREN EVENT September 13th

Course Description and Membership Requirements

Bel Canto (select singers) is a year-long Fine Arts elective course.  There will be a limit of 14 very choice positions available during the 2008-2009 season: 4 Basses, 3 Tenors, 4 Sopranos and 3 Altos.  Positions in Bel Canto are acquired either by the personal invitation of the director or by an audition request.  Membership in Bel Canto comes with considerable responsibility.  Bel Canto represents the pinnacle of the school choral program and provides beauty in appearance, demeanor and musical presentation.  Bel Canto rehearses 4 days a week: Monday 12:10-12:50, Tuesday 12:10-12:50, Wednesday 12:10-12:50 and Thursday morning prior Eucharist 7:20-7:50. Also, Bel Canto rehearses one Monday evening each month from 7:00-8:30 pm. In addition to our rigorous concert schedule, Bel Canto may be called upon at any time by the Admissions or Advancement departments to represent Parish at important ceremonies or promotional events.  Students who agree to membership will complete the entire season of Bel Canto; beginning in August and ending with the Baccalaureate performance in May. Faithful rehearsal attendance, very strong work ethic, and impeccable attention to appearance is required to maintain membership.  There are many additional opportunities available during the school year.   For example, members may audition for TPSMEA (Texas Private Music Educators Association) All-State Choir in October of 2008 or prepare solos for TPSMEA regional and state competition.  Additionally, Bel Canto will represent Parish at the ISAS Fine Arts Festival at the Kinkaid School in Houston April 2-4, 2009.
