Looking ahead: Final
Exam Friday 5/23,
Exam Review Assignments
Part I: Self-Assessment of
Important Topics, or “What was the point?”
This is probably the single most important thing you
can do – it will help you organize things in your head so that the topics fall
neatly into place.
A tour of the book’s “Cumulative Review” sections:
Make sure you know how to do all of the problems – the process of researching
topics you feel uncertain about will help lock them into your brain.
Part III: My Problem Set
(updated – includes all answers)
Pieced together from old tests, test review sets,
quizzes, homeworks, and perhaps some things from the fall exam, this will let
you do problems that are stylistically similar to what you’ve seen from me in
the past.
Addenda: Answers to Chapters 4-5
Want more? You have
all your old tests, review sets, and quizzes – rework those problems!

Homework Note:
Beginning with HW 2.4, students will be graded on far fewer homework
problems. Students are still responsible
for mastering the material, though, so I will recommend practice problems to
help ensure their understanding is locked in.
It is highly recommended that all
students do at least a few practice problems, even for concepts that seem easy. As always, I’m available outside of class to
answer any questions about either the required problems or the practice
problems.

Review Sheet here
If your
final grade would be helped more by counting this as a quiz, I will count it as
a quiz for you (I’ll decide this for each student individually)
Trimester 1 Exam
Our exam will be Thursday morning (11/15) – it will cover
Chapters 1-3.
Review sheet here (latest
version – posted Thursday
Also, here’s a good website where you can practice graphing
Rational Functions:
http://colalg.math.csusb.edu/camdemo/rationals/src/Graph.html
*** Change in HW Policy ***
Beginning in Trimester 2, all
homework will be graded for completeness only.
Homework completed by the start of class will count 100%; up to one
weekday late will be 80%; turned in by the following class will count as 50%;
after that it’s a zero.
*** Change in Warmups/Quizzes ***
Because I won’t be collecting
homework, I will be lengthening the warmups slightly and counting them as Quiz
grades. This means they will no longer
be open-book and open-notes.
Understanding the homework will prepare you sufficiently.
Expect
these minor quizzes daily.
