Mr. Dunlap’s Discrete Math Page
Our Book:
Crisler and Froelich, Discrete
Mathematics Through Applications, W.H. Freeman and Company, 2006.
Homework:
I will be recording a
completion grade for homework as follows: Homework completed by the start of
class will count 100%; up to one weekday late will be 80%; turned in before the
following class will count as 50%; after that it’s a zero.
Quizzes:
I will give short quizzes at the beginning of most classes. Topics will include in-class material,
reading, and homework problems. Review
topics may show up if there’s a particular need for practice.

Note: Old material NOT on the practice test will NOT be on
the real test
This only means basic probability and expected
value (as promised, I’ll give you a table)
HW C7 (due 5/6)
Section 6.3 (p.326)
Finish #22

Repeat the exercise for the Texas Lotto
(contains 54 numbers to choose from)
Then answer the following questions:
What is the probability of matching 3
numbers? 4 numbers? 5? 6?
HW C4 (due 4/25)

need to finish your corrections. No
guaranteed 100 after Friday!

4/9: Roulette Test
HW (due 4/9)
This will be graded.
4/7: here’s the page of Probability
Formulas I handed out in class today
HW P5 (due 4/3)
Read and Digest:
Section 6.4 (pp.329-334)
Note that the
book does not go into as much depth as we have, and they use slightly different
terminology – for example:
“p(B from A)”
represents the conditional probability p(B|A)
“p(B or A)”
is the union
“p(B and A)”
is the intersection
Do:
p.334-7: #5, 1, 3 (yes, do #5 first)
p.340: #10
Roulette Handout (due 4/1)
Must be completed correctly in order to play the casino

HW P3 (due 3/11)
Do:
the three problems at the end of the class notes
HW P2 (due 3/7)
Do:
