Bug Molas Kindergarten students studied the artwork of the Kuna people from the San Blas Islands, called molas. They discussed what makes the molas so interesting and colorful. They talked about lines, shapes, colors, and patterns. Along with our bug unit, they sketched their own bug molas using oil pastels. After making their bug large enough to fill the page, they continued to design their drawing to look like the molas.

Georgia O’Keeffe, Flowers From Observation Kindergarten students studied the life and beautiful artwork of Georgia O’Keeffe. After looking at several of her flower paintings, they discussed how the artist used bright blended colors, and soft textures. They also learned that O’Keeffe made her flowers larger than life, so people would notice them! The students observed flowers in close detail and sketched what they saw, but made it as big as the page. They used tempera paints to color their design. In their paintings, they focused on blending their colors and making soft textures.
