Ceramic Fish These fish all have eyes, mouths, fins, and tails. The resemblance mostly ends there! Some students chose to make realistic-looking fish, and others chose to create imaginary fishy creatures.
Third grade students made fish out of white school clay and colored them with acrylic paints made for use on ceramics.
Flower Paintings Having observed several paintings of flowers by Van Gogh, third grade artists used his simple plan for a composition: a vase of flowers, with the flowers nearly touching the edges of the picture and the table shown as a line behind the vase.
Third grade artists first drew the vase, flowers, and table with a brush and black tempera paint. The next step, painting the flowers and vase, required mixing colors and using different sizes of brushes. Lastly, colors were mixed for the table and wall.
