 Parish swimmers and divers celebrate regional meet success (January 23, 2009)
Parish girls net third state swim and dive title Boys take sixth place February 9, 2009 Parish Episcopal's girls won gold medals in six of 12 events to earn their third-consecutive TAPPS state swimming championship. Parish juniors Marylyn Toledo and Lauren Willis combined to win three individual events and were part of two, first-place relay teams.
Parish senior Chelsea Jones took first in one-meter diving.
Parish won its third TAPPS Division II state champ at San Antonio's Josh Davis Natatorium on Feb. 6-7. The Parish boys' swimmers took sixth in state.
Toledo broke her own meet-record time in winning the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.55 _ the top meet time for any division. As a freshman in 2007, Toledo set a record with a 57.59.
Toledo's other other individual win came in the 100 breaststroke. Toledo set the record with a 1:08.68 in 2007. She won this year with a time of 1:10.00.
Willis took first in the 50 free with a time of 25.59. She was second in the 100 free.
Jones won the state-diving title after winning the TAPPS regional championship.
Parish defended their state titles in the 200 medley and 400 free relays but only Toledo and junior Sallie Weir returned in the 400 relay. In the 200 Toldeo, Weir, Willis and junior Elise Budagher had a winning time of 2:07.65.
In the 400 free relay, Toledo, Budagher, Weir and Willis posted a winning time of 4:10.56.
Parish swimmers look for state 3-peat February 2, 2009 Parish Episcopal’s girls are aiming for a third-consecutive TAPPS Division II state swimming and diving championship as the Panthers head to San Antonio for the state meet Friday and Saturday.
Parish is coming off a TAPPS North Region swim championship Jan. 23 with first-place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. Parish state-record holder Marylyn Toledo took first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke.
Parish’s boys are shooting for a first state title after taking second in the TAPPS regionals standings in Mansfield. Parish freshman Andrew Kadesky won the 500 freestyle while Daniel Pappas, Jeff Hogan, Dakota Smith and Logan Klein led the boys team in best times and points scored in individual and relay events. The boys finished sixth in 2008 state team totals but hope to have their highest state finish after a strong regional performance.
More than 20 Parish swimmers qualified for the TAPPS state meet held at Josh Davis Natatorium. Panthers swim coach Lia Oberstar-Brown cited Ian Dechow, James Morris, Kadesky, K.C. Meyercord, Ryan Northway and John Rector for qualifying in at least one individual event at the state meet in their first year of Parish swimming and diving.
At last year’s state meet, Parish repeated as TAPPS Division II state champions with five, first-place finishes. The Panthers won three individual events and two relays to win first in the overall girls standings by 24 points.
“I don’t know if we’re ready to start talking dynasty for the girls,” Oberstar-Brown said. “We lost three senior girls who earned a lot of points. We’ll see what we can get started for the boys. They have some terrific swimmers returning “
A junior who anchors Parish’s 200 medley and 400 free relay teams, Toledo won the 100 fly and the 100 breaststroke at regional. She set the state-meet record for both events as a freshman in 2007. Toledo swam the 100 breast in a time of 1:08.15 at the regional meet which would eclipse her state-meet record of 1:08.68 if she duplicates or betters the mark at state.
In the 2008 state individual events, Toledo was first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 fly but will try to double up in her specialties with in the 100 fly and breast at this year’s meet.
Parish is the defending state champ in the 200 medley and 400 free relays but only Toledo and junior Sallie Weir return in the 400 relay. In the 200 medley relay, Weir and juniors Lauren Willis and Elise Budagher have replaced graduated Grace Kelsoe, Callie Cutler and Hayley Hatfield.

MS Swimmers at DPL Meet October 2008 The Parish Middle School Swimmers were “Animals in the Water” at the recent Dallas Parochial League (DPL) swim meet held October 15 at Loos Auditorium. The Varsity Swim Team (7th and 8th grade) finished fourth overall, and the Junior Varsity (5th and 6th grade) came in third. Parish also had the Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity meet high point winners. Mei Lynn Colby was the Junior Varsity high point winner by winning both the 50 yard breast stroke and the 100 yard individual medley and finishing second in the 50 yard butterfly. Maddi Mailliard won the Varsity Girls High Point title by sweeping her events in the 50 yard freestyle, the 50 yard backstroke and a thrilling 100 yard individual medley. This kept alive a string of high point wins for Mailliard, who had previously won JV and Varsity high point titles in the 5th, 6th and 7th grades. Congratulations to all the swimmers!
